Scud Security is a firm that offers work to freelance mercenaries.

Controversy[]

On an episode of OPNET, Terra Gazette reporter Ennis Sobotka appeared to tell the story of Santoyo Thomas, a young mercenary who had been recruited by a Scud Security representative at a bar on Tanys. Thomas signed a contract to work on Aremis, but it turned out that the document gave Scud the power to station him anywhere that the company saw fit.

Rather than Aremis, Thomas was sent to Kesseli, a planet that's only inhabitable beneath the surface. Thomas hated the fact that he was trapped underground even when he wasn't working, so he continuously applied for a transfer. However, his requests fell on deaf ears. He threatened to simply walk off the job, but management were quick to remind him that a clause in his contract stipulated hefty monetary penalties for abandonment.

Sinking into a deep depression, Thomas was faced with a decision between sticking out a job that he hated, or wilfully indebting himself to a company that he did not trust. So, he opted for a third avenue: he stowed away on a commercial freighter and travelled to a system outside of UEE jurisdiction.

Thomas then got in touch with Sobotka with the hopes of being able to spread the reach of his story. He still is attempting to return to the UEE, but he needs to finish his legal battle with Scud to do so. According to Thomas, there are plenty more citizens than just him being taken advantage of in this way.
